Buying Recreational Cannabis in Colorado Springs

Yes. Adults age 21 and older can legally purchase recreational marijuana from licensed dispensaries in Colorado Springs. HighTops offers both recreational and medical cannabis at our Powers and Royer locations.

No. A medical marijuana card is not required to purchase recreational cannabis. Recreational customers must be at least 21 years old and present an accepted, valid form of identification when visiting the dispensary.

Yes. Colorado residents, out-of-state visitors and international travelers age 21 or older may purchase recreational cannabis in Colorado Springs. You do not need to live in Colorado or complete any special registration before visiting a licensed recreational dispensary.

Recreational customers may purchase up to one ounce of cannabis flower, eight grams of concentrate or cannabis products containing up to 800 milligrams of THC at one time. You can mix and match product types, but Colorado’s equivalency rules apply to the entire purchase. Our budtenders will help make sure your order remains within the legal limit.

HighTops carries a variety of recreational cannabis products, including flower, pre-rolls, edibles, concentrates, vaporizers, topicals and accessories. Product availability can vary between our Powers and Royer dispensaries, so check the online menu for your preferred location before visiting.

Cannabis may generally be consumed on private property with the property owner’s permission. It cannot be consumed openly in public places such as parks, sidewalks, businesses, restaurants, concert venues or common areas of apartment buildings. Cannabis use is also prohibited inside vehicles and on federal property, including national parks and national forests. Hotels and vacation rentals may establish their own cannabis policies, so always check before consuming.

No. Cannabis purchased in Colorado cannot legally be transported across state lines, even when traveling to another state where marijuana is legal. Do not take cannabis through an airport, onto an airplane or onto federal property. Purchase only what you can legally use while you are in Colorado.

No. Driving while impaired by cannabis is illegal in Colorado. Cannabis also cannot be consumed in a vehicle, and open cannabis containers are restricted under Colorado law. Always arrange a sober ride and keep unopened products securely stored while transporting them.

Yes — every customer is carded, every time, no exceptions. Please bring a valid state-issued ID or passport. If you’re a medical marijuana patient, make sure your recommendation is current and bring that too. No — under Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division regulations (MED Rule 3-235), marijuana and marijuana-infused products cannot be returned to a licensed dispensary once they leave the store. All THC product sales are final.

That said, we genuinely want you to have a great experience. If you believe a product is defective, here’s how to reach a resolution:

-Do not bring the product back into the store
-Contact us within 7 calendar days of purchase
-Have your original receipt ready
-Be prepared to share photo or video documentation of the issue

While returns are not permitted under Colorado law, store credit or a replacement may be offered at management discretion as a courtesy — this is not guaranteed. We’re also happy to connect you directly with the manufacturer when appropriate to help resolve the issue faster.

To enter the dispensary or make a purchase, you must present a valid government issued photo identification. Our staff are required to verify that every ID is legitimate, readable, and in good condition. If an ID is cracked, heavily worn, or otherwise damaged, we may not be able to accept it.
Damage that obscures important security features, the barcode, the photo, or key information such as the date of birth can prevent us from verifying the ID. Because dispensaries are strictly regulated, our team must be confident that the identification presented is authentic and clearly readable. If the condition of the ID prevents proper verification, we will not be able to allow entry or complete a purchase. Customers may also use the MyColoradoTM digital ID app as an acceptable form of identification when it displays a valid Colorado driver license or ID card. The digital ID must be presented within the official MyColorado app and must be clearly visible for verification by our
staff.
If your physical ID is cracked or damaged, we recommend replacing it through your state’s motor vehicle office as soon as possible.

Absolutely. Our bud tenders are here to be your go-to experts on all things cannabis — strains, products, consumption methods, dosing, and more. No question is too basic or too obscure. If we don’t know the answer off the top of our heads, we’ll find someone who does.

Yes. Recreational customers and medical patients can browse the HighTops menu and place an order online for pickup at either our Powers or Royer dispensary. Make sure you select the correct location and choose either the recreational or medical menu before placing your order.

Orders placed by 8:30 p.m. can be prepared for same-day pickup. Orders submitted after 8:30 p.m. will be filled the following day. Payment is completed when you arrive, and you will still need to present the required identification or medical marijuana card.

HighTops accepts cash, and an ATM is available at both our Powers and Royer locations. Debit card payments are also accepted with a small processing fee. Online orders are not prepaid, so payment is completed when you pick up your order.

Yes. Placing an online order allows our team to prepare and reserve the selected products for pickup. Inventory can change quickly, so ordering online is the best way to secure specific products before visiting. Please pick up your order during regular store hours and bring the identification required for your purchase.

Medical Patients

To legally purchase medical marijuana in Colorado, you must first obtain a valid Medical Marijuana Registry Card through the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). A required step in this process is getting a physician certification.

A physician certification is a written medical recommendation from a licensed Colorado physician confirming that you have a qualifying medical condition and may benefit from medical marijuana. This certification must be submitted as part of your application to the state’s Medical Marijuana Registry.

Once your application is approved, you will receive your Medical Marijuana Registry Card, which allows you to purchase medical marijuana from licensed dispensaries.

Important things to know:

-Dispensaries cannot provide physician certifications or conduct medical evaluations.
-You must obtain your certification directly from a licensed Colorado physician.
-A physician certification is not the same as a prescription.
-You must present a valid registry card and ID when purchasing medical marijuana (a copy can be stored on your customer account for convenience).

Recreational cannabis is available to adults age 21 and older with valid identification. Medical cannabis is available to qualifying Colorado patients with a current Medical Marijuana Registry Card and valid ID.

Medical and recreational customers shop from separate menus and may have different product options, purchase limits and tax rates. HighTops serves both recreational customers and medical marijuana patients at our Powers and Royer locations.

Most adult medical marijuana patients may purchase up to two ounces of flower, eight grams of concentrate or up to 20,000 milligrams of medical marijuana products per day. Patients between ages 18 and 20 are generally limited to two grams of concentrate.

Some patients may have physician authorization for different purchase limits. Any required authorization must be current and presented according to Colorado regulations.

Every time you buy from Hightops (either rec or med, if eligible), you earn 2.5% of the purchase amount in points. For example, if you spend $100, you earn points worth $2.50. 

 Points can be redeemed like dollar value toward future purchases. Ask your budtender or check your online member dashboard in the app or wallet pass for available points and redemption options.

Yes – as a High Roller Club member you’re eligible for a penny preroll on your birthday. Just bring your ID and we’ll hook it up. 

Usually yes, but depends on the specific promo. If a promotion says “not valid with loyalty points” then you’ll need to choose either the promo or points redemption. Budtenders should confirm at checkout.

Yes. Beginning June 1, 2026, High Roller Club points will expire. Any points earned before June 1 will expire 180 days from June 1. Any points earned on or after June 1 will expire 180 days from the date they are earned. When you redeem points, your oldest points will be used first.

We can merge accounts — talk to your budtender at your next visit. This keeps all your points consolidated.

Yes – both recreational customers (21+) and medical card holders are eligible. Be sure to select the correct category when joining.

Product Questions

Flower: The dried and cured buds of the cannabis plant. Flower is most commonly smoked or vaporized.

Concentrates: Cannabis extracts such as wax, shatter, live resin, rosin and oil. Concentrates often contain higher levels of THC than flower and may be vaporized, dabbed or used in other cannabis products.

Edibles: Foods, beverages and other ingestible products infused with cannabis. Because they are processed differently by the body, edibles generally take longer to produce effects than inhaled cannabis and may last longer.

THC percentage measures the concentration of THC in cannabis flower or a concentrate. A higher percentage means the product contains more THC by weight, but it does not guarantee that every person will experience stronger effects.

Your experience can also depend on the amount consumed, your tolerance, the consumption method and the product’s overall cannabinoid profile. Edibles are generally measured in milligrams of THC per serving rather than by percentage.

Traditional cannabis edibles commonly begin producing effects within 30 minutes to 2 hours. However, it can take longer to feel the full effects.

Timing varies based on the product, serving size, metabolism, tolerance and whether you have eaten recently. Avoid taking another serving simply because you do not feel the effects immediately.

Fast-acting edibles are formulated to begin producing effects sooner than traditional edibles. Some may begin working within approximately 15 to 30 minutes, although timing varies by product and person.

Many fast-acting products use emulsification or similar technology to help cannabinoids disperse and absorb differently than those in traditional edibles. Always review the product label for its recommended serving size, expected onset time and directions before consuming more.

 

Live resin: A concentrate generally made from cannabis that is frozen shortly after harvest. This process helps preserve more of the plant’s original aromatic compounds, including terpenes. Live resin is typically produced using a solvent-based extraction process.

Rosin: A solventless concentrate made by applying heat and pressure to cannabis flower, kief or hash. Rosin is known for retaining the plant’s cannabinoids and aromatic compounds without using chemical solvents during extraction.

Distillate: A highly refined cannabis oil containing a concentrated amount of a specific cannabinoid, most commonly THC. Much of the plant’s original flavor and aroma is removed during refinement, although terpenes or flavors may be added back into the finished product.

THC and CBD are two cannabinoids naturally found in cannabis. THC is primarily responsible for cannabis’s intoxicating effects, while CBD is not considered intoxicating on its own.

Cannabis products may contain THC, CBD or a combination of both. Check the product label for the cannabinoid content and ask a HighTops budtender for help comparing available options.

Terpenes are aromatic compounds that contribute to the smell and flavor of cannabis. Common cannabis terpenes include myrcene, limonene, pinene, linalool and caryophyllene.

A product’s terpene profile can help describe its aroma and flavor, but individual experiences can vary. Terpene information may be displayed on the product packaging or available from your budtender.

The duration of cannabis effects depends on the product, serving size, consumption method, tolerance and individual response.

Inhaled cannabis usually produces effects more quickly and generally wears off sooner than an edible. Edible effects may last several hours, and some residual effects can continue longer. Never drive or operate machinery while you are impaired.
