With our two convenient MMJ locations in Colorado Springs, we get people popping all the time looking to purchase our high-quality cannabis and various other cannabis products. Unfortunately for now, Colorado Springs and El Paso county remain approved for legal medical cannabis purchase only. This means that we are forced to turn people away who may have a medical need for cannabis! Anyone who doesn’t hold a valid medical card, often called a Red card, is then forced to travel to the nearby cities of Denver, Pueblo, or Manitou Springs to purchase recreational cannabis. It is well-known that even though the nearest city of Manitou Springs allows for the purchase of recreational cannabis, the prices are inflated, much more so than you would find at a medical cannabis dispensary like Hightops. You may be able to find lower-priced options in Denver or Pueblo, but then you are wasting time on those long drives to find a viable option. It is for these reasons that we want to educate our readers and potential members about how easy it is to get your medical marijuana card so that you can purchase cannabis in Colorado Springs.
What Are The Qualifying Medical Conditions?
There are certain health conditions that will allow you to qualify and apply for your card. If you suffer from Cancer, Glaucoma, HIV, AIDS, Cachexia, Persistent Muscle Spasms, Seizures, Severe Nausea, Severe Pain, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), you may qualify. Your condition must be verified by a physician who is in good standing and licensed to practice in Colorado. Your physician must be an MD or a DO, and they must also be registered to submit certifications online. This means that contrary to what some believe, or what we have seen in pop culture, your medical condition is diagnosed by an actual doctor, not some quack in a shady office. If you have a child who suffers from any of the above conditions, you may also help them apply for their medical marijuana card. The process for minors is a little different and a bit more extensive. You can see the physician protocol for minors here.
Submitting The Application
If you are over 18, a resident of Colorado, and have a qualifying medical condition, you can continue to the next steps to apply for your medical marijuana card right online. You’ll want to make a copy of your state-issued, valid Colorado ID or Colorado driver’s license, gather your physician certification, your social security number, your Caregiver’s registration ID (if you are applying as a caregiver), and your bank account number plus routing number or credit card information so you can pay the $25 application fee. Go to the Colorado.gov website to set up your username and password, and begin your application. Be sure to triple-check your information before submitting your application!
Next Steps For Approval
After your application has been submitted, you can expect a response within 1-3 business days. If you do not have access to a computer, you also have the ability to apply via the mail. For this option, you would download the application and send in all the required information listed above, along with a check or money order for $25 plus a certified copy of your most recent Colorado tax return. The mail-in process takes 6-8 weeks for approval, and any correspondence is through the mail, so this extends the application process drastically. We always recommend applying online in order to expedite the process and get your medical card in your hands as soon as possible. Once approved via the online application, you can login and print your documentation from the convenience of home!
Some important things to remember once you have your card is that your medical marijuana card must be renewed every year. It’s a good idea to start this renewal process 30 days before your expiration date so that you avoid any lapses in eligibility. In order to renew your medical marijuana card, you must also obtain an updated physician certification. To find a physician in your area, we recommend using Google to search for “How Do I Qualify for a MMJ Red Card”. You will find there are different options, and it will save you time to book your appointment in advance.
