OUR SEED STORY
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Hightops is excited to announce the addition of new strains to our ever expanding grow operations. We have perfected the strains we offer over the last 10 years and look forward to introducing some new genetics for our patients to enjoy.
Watch as the newest members of our family grow from seed to mature plant – and follow their journey!

Dosi-Punch in Flower
G-Spot Tornado in Flower
Zkittlez Kush in Flower
Gamma Banana in Flower
The plants are in early bloom and growing long, white pistils at their nodes (bud sites.) Pistils will rapidly change colour from white to orange/red in the coming weeks.
New Strains in Flower!
As the plants are receiving less light, they begin to focus their energy on growing buds rather than foliage. During the first week or so of flowering, plants will actually experience a period of accelerated growth and stretching. This “flowering stretch” is completely normal as they try and outgrow surrounding vegetation in order to get the most light possible to ensure higher chances of reproduction.

Seedlings Week 10 – Ready To Flower!
Now that we have confirmation of the sex of the plants, the males are removed so that females can begin producing buds! First we cut clones of the female plants to continue the growing cycle, then the seedlings are moved to the flower room and placed within nets to help support the flowers when they get big and heavy.
Vegetative/Pre-flower State – Week 9
The plants have grown tall and strong and are ready to enter into the flowering stage, the last stage of the cannabis life cycle, and the most important! The flowering stage begins after a period of reduced light exposure. Both female and male plants have a flowering stage, but male cannabis plants usually mature earlier than the female plants, sometimes up to a couple weeks earlier. To ensure that the male plants do not pollinate the female plants, the leaves are sent to be tested to determine the plant’s sex, and the male plants are removed.
Vegetative State – Week 8
The roots are continuing to expand and our plants’ growth is taking off! A healthy cannabis plant can grow up to 2 inches in a single day! The duration of the vegetative phase is controlled primarily by light exposure.
April
Vegetative State – Week 7
As the plants continue to grow taller and larger, new layers of leaves are being added. Spacing between the nodes should represent the type of cannabis you are growing. Indica plants tend to be short and dense, while sativas grow lanky and more open in foliage.
Vegetative State – Week 6
In the vegetative stage, a healthy Cannabis plant grows in height and size as much as it can with the given conditions. Now the plant grows only leaves and stems. Meanwhile, it may show pre-flowers to indicate sex but the buds will only start growing when the days grow shorter, or exposure to light is reduced.
Seedling Transplant Day!
In week 5, our seedlings are ready to graduate into bigger pots to grow tall and strong! At this stage, the roots and foliage are developing rapidly and have quickly outgrown their current homes.
Seedlings – Week 4
During this stage the roots are very small and it doesn’t need much water to thrive. The plant is vulnerable to disease and mold, so it is important to keep its environment clean and monitor excess moisture.
Seedlings – Week 3
Cannabis plants are considered seedlings until they begin to develop leaves with the full number of blades on new fan leaves. A healthy seedling should be a vibrant green color.
Seedlings – Week 2
As a sprout, the seed will initially produce leaves with only one ridged blade. Once new growth develops, the leaves will develop more blades (1, 3, 5, 7, etc.). A mature cannabis plant will have between 5-7 blades per leaf, but some plants may have more.
Seedling Stage
When the seed opens, the first pair of small round leaves that appear are called “cotyledons.” After that, our little Cannabis plant starts producing serrated leaves.
March
Seed Germination – Week 1
When the seed opens up and starts showing the first white tap root, it’s time to put it in its next growing medium (soil, coco, etc) in a small pot. This root starts to develop and eventually the plant produces the first two oval leaves, called cotyledons. Now it’s a seedling!
Seed Germination
Cannabis seeds need warm temperature, humidity, air, and water. They are placed between two plates in a dampened napkin to begin germinating.
Seeds Arrive!
Our seeds have arrived and we can’t wait to get planting! We have chosen genetics from a variety of highly vetted sources, including Jungle Boys & Symbiotic. 🙂
